Student Wellness
During the 2016-17 school year, Barnesville Schools implemented the Student Wellness Committee aimed at providing useful information to students about health and nutrition and to improve overall student wellness. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive learning environment for developing and practicing lifelong wellness behaviors, support and promote dietary habits contributing to students' health status and academic performance, provide more opportunities for students to engage in physical activity, and improve performance in high-risk groups so that no student is left behind.
The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act
The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires USDA to establish nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools — beyond the federally supported meals programs. This new rule carefully balances science-based nutrition guidelines with practical and flexible solutions to promote healthier eating on campus. The rule draws on recommendations from the Institute of Medicine, existing voluntary standards already implemented by thousands of schools around the country, and healthy food and beverage offerings already available in the marketplace.

Nutritional Standards
Starting in school year 2014-15, all foods sold at school during the school day are required to meet nutrition standards. The Smart Snacks in School regulation applies to foods sold a la carte, in the school store, vending machines, and any other venues where food is sold to students.
